Scottsdale buying guide · 20 / 20
The cabinet drawing, appliance list and price sheet should describe the same kitchen. If they do not, the lowest total may belong to an old version of the plan. Use a simple revision record to keep your Scottsdale project comparison accurate while finishes, storage and layout decisions evolve. This also makes a Gold or Platinum discussion more useful: everyone can see what you are actually asking to buy.
Your home. A clearer way to buy.
Compare the details. Then decide.
Bring your ideas, drawings or an existing quote. Explore the design and pricing before deciding whether to join.
No payment or membership is required to make a request. HIBC is a buying program, not a remodeling contractor.
Create one current version of the buying brief
Give each proposal a date and revision label. Attach the cabinet drawing, line-item list, finish selections, hardware and relevant appliance specifications to that version. Mark older copies superseded in your own project folder while preserving them for reference. Do not rely on a screenshot of a subtotal without the specification pages it belongs to.
Name the person authorized to approve the order. If two homeowners or a builder share decisions, agree on how a final approval will be communicated. An exploratory design conversation should not be confused with a release to manufacture. Ask the supplier what action actually makes an order binding and what change or cancellation terms apply after that point.
Record the difference, not just a new total
For every revision, list what was added, removed or substituted. Include quantity, model, dimensions, finish and included services where relevant. Ask the seller to explain any price change caused by the revision and identify allowances that remain open. A revised total without a change description is difficult to compare or approve confidently.
Keep discretionary upgrades separate from corrections required to make the plan work. For example, a storage accessory may be optional, while an added finished panel may be necessary for the selected exposed end. Ask the designer to distinguish them. That helps you protect priorities instead of treating every added line as either essential or wasteful.

Recheck connected decisions
A new appliance model may change a cabinet opening or service requirement. A different floor can affect the finished height. A changed cabinet run may alter the countertop template or backsplash quantities. Ask the responsible designer and trades which linked documents must be revised, rather than assuming the change belongs to only one supplier.
Use a dependency note: changed item, affected documents, responsible reviewer and approval status. If an answer is outstanding, show it prominently in the current brief. A verbal expectation that someone will check later is not the same as a completed measurement or signed product approval.
Separate price expiry from project readiness
Ask when the current quote expires, what can change before ordering and whether a deposit fixes any specific price or allocation. Do not let an expiry date substitute for verification of important specifications. The FTC’s contractor guidance supports written estimates and clear contract details; use written records to understand the scope and timing rather than relying on pressure to decide immediately.
For the Scottsdale property, ask whether a change affects approvals. The city’s home-improvement guidance makes scope and trades central to the permit question. Moving a service or modifying the construction plan deserves a fresh check with the responsible professional. Association or building requirements, when applicable, remain a separate check.
Also identify the city record the applicant is updating. Scottsdale’s planning and permitting portal guidance directs projects initiated after January 6, 2026 to SPUR, while some earlier projects still use legacy eServices links as records are completed or migrated. Ask the applicant to confirm the applicable system, project number and accepted plan revision. Keep that reference alongside the supplier’s order revision; changing one record does not by itself change the other.
A quote is expiring. Which option is actually available?
Use this comparison when measurements, an association response or a city review could still change your cabinet order. Ask the seller which options it actually offers, then record its written answer. An extension, price hold or refundable deposit is not assumed. Mark an unavailable option “not offered.”
Copy these prompts into private project notes. This worksheet does not collect information, authorize payment or release an order.
Request a new quote later
- Record
- The present expiry date, what must be resolved before re-quoting, and who will provide the revised price.
- Compare
- Which products, costs and delivery assumptions will need fresh confirmation? Keep future price and availability marked unknown until the seller confirms them.
Ask for a written extension
- Record
- Whether offered, the new deadline, the exact drawing and product list covered, and every condition or charge.
- Compare
- Does the seller confirm only a price, or also allocation and timing? Ask what happens if a dimension, finish or approval changes before that deadline.
Clarify any requested payment
- Record
- The amount, payee, purpose and written terms. Ask whether paying or signing starts design work, reserves products or releases an order to manufacture.
- Compare
- What becomes binding, when, and for which revision? Obtain the applicable change, cancellation and refund terms; do not infer them from the word “deposit.”
Connect the offer to the open issue
- Record
- The unresolved dimension or approval, affected quote lines, responsible reviewer and next confirmation date.
- Compare
- If the answer changes the design, which seller charges or commitments could change? Keep those lines provisional until the responsible people have resolved them.
Keep the two purchases separate. HIBC’s conditional membership-fee refund does not cover product orders. Read the membership terms and the seller’s product-order terms. If the payment is for a contractor’s work, also use the contract and payment-milestone checklist.
Bring the current quote revision and the unanswered questions to a free kitchen design and quote request. You can discuss the buying options before deciding whether Gold or Platinum fits; the request does not enroll you or authorize a product order.
Compare memberships against the current scope
Gold can be part of a kitchen, bathroom and flooring buying discussion; Platinum is intended for new-home or full-gut whole-home materials planning. If your project expands or contracts, revisit fit using the revised scope. Do not assume upgrades, credits, refunds or changes between tiers without written confirmation of the applicable terms.
In your cost comparison, use the current complete product and service totals, include applicable membership dues, and remove superseded numbers. Keep confidential supplier quotes within the appropriate HIBC comparison process. When every required item is priced and the responsible people have approved the specifications, the membership decision rests on a real purchase plan instead of a moving target.
One-page kitchen revision log
Copy these columns into your private notes. One row per change keeps the price comparison tied to the correct design.
Check product-return terms before release. If a correctly supplied item later no longer fits your plans, can you return it? Ask the seller for the policy that applies to that exact item and order stage. Record any required authorization, deadline, condition and packaging, return freight, restocking or other charges, and whether an accepted return produces a refund or store credit. Mark an unanswered term unknown; do not infer eligibility from a general store policy. Keep this separate from delivery damage or missing items and warranty remedies.

Gold · Kitchen, bath & flooring
Bring your room plans into focus.
$4,995

Platinum · New home & full-gut remodel
Consider the whole materials plan.
$24,995
One-time enrollment fee for projects requiring coordinated whole-home materials planning. Confirm the specific benefits, eligible purchasing scope and applicable continuation terms with HIBC.
A larger budget alone does not establish fit. Bring the room-by-room scope and your builder’s responsibilities.
Questions before your next step.
Should I delete the old quote?
Keep it as a dated reference, but clearly identify the current version so an installer or supplier does not act on superseded specifications.
Does a membership refund cancel my product order?
No. The conditional membership refund and independent supplier order terms are separate. Review both before any product order.
What if I cannot price one changed item?
Mark it unpriced and keep the comparison provisional. Ask who can resolve it and what the final approval depends on.
