Scottsdale buying guide · 19 / 20
A cabinet order is not ready to receive just because a truck date appears on a calendar. Decide who can accept it, where the cartons can be safely stored and what happens if an item is missing or damaged. For a Scottsdale home—especially one you occupy seasonally—those decisions belong in the buying plan before you approve freight and installation dates.

Name the receiver before accepting the delivery scope
Choose a person who is authorized to receive the shipment and can follow the seller’s inspection and exception procedures. Agree on a backup if you will be away. Giving someone access to the house does not automatically authorize them to approve substitutions, waive claims or accept a changed installation plan. Write down the limits of their role.
Ask the seller which documents arrive with the shipment, how quantities are identified and when damage or shortages must be reported. Obtain the actual applicable terms; there is no single universal claim deadline for every supplier or carrier. Save the order number and the right service contact where the receiver can find them.
If you will not be at the Scottsdale property, agree on three separate permissions: documenting the delivery, approving any extra handling charge, and deciding what to do with an exception. Set a private contact method and a backup decision maker. Ask the seller what the receiver should do if the homeowner cannot be reached; do not leave that choice to a driver or an informal text on delivery day. Keep gate codes and vacant-home access details out of public worksheets.
Distinguish curbside, room delivery and installation
Put the delivery level in ordinary language. Where will the driver stop? Who unloads, carries cartons inside, handles stairs and removes packaging? Does the quote include the equipment or labor needed for your access conditions? Ask about a failed delivery, rescheduling and any storage charges before comparing freight numbers.
For a condominium or managed community, confirm any building reservation, vehicle access, elevator, working-hour or protective-covering requirements that actually apply. Do not assume they are the same across Scottsdale properties. Tell the seller about constraints before accepting the proposed delivery service. Your city location does not establish a carrier’s access or service eligibility.

Make the receiving space ready
Ask the cabinet supplier for the product-specific storage and handling instructions. Then ask your contractor whether the proposed area meets those conditions and can be kept secure and protected. Avoid assuming that an unfinished garage, outdoor area or vacant room is suitable. The correct answer depends on the materials, packaging and manufacturer requirements.
Create a location plan for boxes and the path trades will use. Keep required access clear. If installation will occur in stages, ask how the receiver can identify each room or cabinet group without losing the original labels. Confirm who pays for any extra handling and who is responsible while the order is stored.
Use a factual exception record
As one manufacturer example, KraftMaid recommends inspecting its cabinet order shortly after arrival and before demolition, because made-to-order replacements can take time. Follow the actual seller’s instructions for your chosen cabinets; this example does not establish HIBC product availability or a universal deadline.
Record the delivered item identifiers, quantities and visible condition as permitted by the seller’s instructions. Keep photographs focused on the product and packaging; avoid including unrelated personal information. Note when an exception was reported and preserve the seller’s written response. Ask before discarding packaging that may be needed for a claim.
A replacement part can affect the installation sequence. Ask the installer which work can proceed and which must wait. Do not interpret a carrier signature or a support acknowledgement as a resolved product claim. The person responsible should confirm the remedy, timing and any labor consequences separately.
Include delivery in the membership comparison
The FTC’s home-improvement guidance recommends comparing written estimates that describe work, materials and timing. Apply that discipline to delivery: put the service level and exclusions next to the product total. A low materials subtotal is not directly comparable to another quote that already includes room delivery, storage or installation.
For Gold or Platinum, ask HIBC to clarify the product-purchasing path and the independent seller’s responsibilities. Membership is not a freight-insurance policy or a guarantee of delivery dates. When the plan is complete, compare the product package, required services and applicable dues together, then decide whether it works for the project.

Questions before your next step.
Can HIBC guarantee the delivery date?
No. Availability and timing depend on the independent seller and carrier. Confirm the current promise, service scope and exception terms before ordering.
Can a property manager receive the cabinets?
Potentially, if the seller’s procedure and your arrangement allow it. Confirm access, inspection responsibilities and the manager’s authority in advance.
Is freight included in the membership fee?
Do not assume so. Product, freight, handling, storage and installation charges must be identified in the actual quote.
