Scottsdale buying guide
A lower dishwasher sound rating can be appealing, but it is only one part of the purchase. Compare the programs you expect to use, what happens after washing and the complete quoted cost before choosing a model for your Scottsdale kitchen.

Name the quiet time that matters
Start with a normal evening: when dishes are loaded, where people sit afterward and when clean dishes are next needed. Identify the activity you want to protect, such as conversation at the island or reading in an adjoining room.
Write that priority before comparing prices. Two households can reasonably choose different machines because the same wash-and-dry routine overlaps different activities. Keep convenient timing separate from an assumption that a machine will be inaudible.
Read the rating in context
Record each exact model, its published sound rating and the source. Ask which test or operating conditions the manufacturer identifies. GE describes its own quietness testing using a controlled room and a recording of the main wash. That company-specific explanation is not evidence that every brand uses the identical process.
A published rating helps compare documented products; it is not a measurement at your kitchen table. Keep unknown test details marked unknown instead of treating a showroom description as a guarantee.

Compare the cycle you will actually select
Choose the likely program and drying options for each candidate. Request the matching owner instructions and documented duration or range. Ask what could change that timing and whether a quick or quiet setting changes the available options. A feature name alone does not answer those questions.
ENERGY STAR dishwasher criteria address energy and water use. Record that information separately; the label does not answer your sound-and-timing comparison.
Look beyond the end-of-wash indicator
KitchenAid explains that some models can continue fan operation after the cycle, depending on the model and selected options. Ask what completion means on your candidate: washing finished, drying finished or ready to unload.
Check documented completion tones and their controls separately. If automatic door opening matters, use the door-opening drying comparison. Follow the selected model's instructions rather than changing its operation to imitate another machine.
Include the room and the installation
KitchenAid's sound guidance distinguishes operating phases and explains that loading and installation can affect what is heard. Give the installer the proposed location and exact model. Have that professional identify the required fitting and any unresolved cabinet or connection work; do not add improvised insulation.
Scottsdale treats altered electrical and plumbing work separately from cosmetic improvements. Confirm the actual property's jurisdiction and scope. A postal address or lower sound rating is not an installation approval.
Decide what the quote difference is worth
Compare complete, itemized offers with the same required installation and delivery scope. Identify other feature differences before attributing the whole price difference to sound. Use the actual quotes, not an assumed premium.
Record one conclusion: prefer the first model, prefer the alternative or wait for missing evidence. Then add the selection to your appliance-to-cabinet schedule. If it changes an earlier choice, reconcile the quote and drawing revisions before the affected order.
Your private sound-and-cycle comparison
Copy these prompts into private notes for two actual candidates. This worksheet does not collect or submit information.
01
Time and room
Record the usual start, next needed dishes, occupied room and activity you want to protect.
02
Model and rating
Keep the full model, listed rating, source and known test context together. Mark missing evidence.
03
Cycle and options
Name the intended program, drying choices and documented duration. Note conditions or unanswered timing questions.
04
After washing
Record any documented fan activity, door movement, completion tones and supported controls.
05
Installation
Name the responsible professional, required fitting and unresolved cabinet, connection or jurisdiction questions.
06
Cost and choice
Compare complete quoted totals and other feature differences. State your preference and remaining evidence needed.
A useful comparison can change the shortlist
Hypothetical example: a household prefers the lower-rated candidate because people read near the kitchen after dinner. Its preferred drying option has documented activity after the wash. Before deciding, they compare that full routine with the alternative, obtain the complete price difference and ask about supported controls. They may still choose the lower-rated model, but now the reason reflects their evening and the actual offer.

Questions before choosing.
Does the lowest listed rating guarantee the quietest experience in my room?
No. Keep the exact model, documented test context, selected cycle and proposed installation in view. This worksheet does not predict or measure sound in your home.
Should a sound concern make me replace an otherwise suitable dishwasher?
Do not diagnose a fault from a buying guide. Follow the manufacturer's support route for an existing appliance. Compare replacement choices only after separating that concern from your desired features.
