Keep materials, design and construction in one budget
Your cabinet, floor and countertop choices affect each other. HIBC's role is buying guidance and introduction coordination. Construction, fabrication, installation and trade work need their own responsible providers, scope and contracts. A product quote, sample appointment or designer conversation does not establish a complete remodel contract.
Start with the project address and actual scope
An Austin-area mailing address is not a permit determination. Confirm which city, county or other authority governs the property. For work within the City of Austin's jurisdiction, distinguish finish replacement from changes to walls, fixtures, electrical work or plumbing. The City identifies some finish work as building-permit exempt, while its Express kitchen-remodel route has specific limits. Associated trade work and code requirements still need review for the project.
Use the official address and permitting resources below when preparing your scope. If your property is governed by another authority, use that authority's requirements rather than applying Austin's process to it.

Ask what the review includes, which deliverables are provided and whether measurements, revisions or further design services carry a charge.
Can I explore a design before joining?
Request an initial review before deciding on membership. HIBC checks whether a suitable no-charge review or design option is available for the project and explains the confirmed scope, conditions and timing before arranging it. A complete design, unlimited revisions or a booked appointment should only be expected when those specific deliverables have been confirmed.

Understand the buying options
For eligible products in the applicable member tier and approved ordering route, pricing is the actual supplier price available to HIBC, without HIBC product markup. Applicable membership charges, tax, freight, delivery, installation and other services remain separate and belong in the complete project comparison. Guest cabinet pricing is a separate option with its own pricing and terms. Ask for the current written option that fits your project rather than assuming a product subtotal is your total renovation cost.

Compare a remodeler on a defined scope
Before selecting a kitchen remodeling company, use a common scope and written bids. The City of Austin recommends at least three bids for the same work and checking relevant license, insurance, permit and inspection information. Decide who is responsible for each part of the project, including orders, receiving, demolition, installation and trade coordination. Prepare a brief for the first design conversation
Describe what must improve in your kitchen before selecting a finished look. Separate essential changes from optional ideas, and identify the cabinets, counters and appliances you hope to keep.
Current photos: Include each wall, doorways, adjacent spaces and the areas that frustrate you.
An approximate measured sketch: Mark windows, doors, the sink and appliances. Label the sketch as preliminary, not ready for ordering.
Appliance information: Bring model details for appliances you will retain and a list of possible replacements.
Product priorities: Explain the feature you like in each reference image, such as a storage arrangement, cabinet color or counter pattern.
Budget and timing: State a total-project budget and any deadline that affects decisions.
