Austin Cabinet Buying Guide: Compare Layouts & Quotes | HIBC
Product specifications and availability need project-specific confirmation. View the full-resolution inspiration image.
A cabinet quote is easiest to compare when every provider is pricing the same kitchen. Before you choose a door style or chase a lower subtotal, define the layout, cabinet sizes, storage requirements and finish. HIBC helps Austin-area homeowners organize buying decisions and request a suitable local product or design introduction after qualification and availability checks.
What does “custom cabinets” mean in your quote?
That phrase can describe different products. Stock cabinets use a defined catalog; semi-custom or made-to-order lines may offer selected dimensions, finishes and modifications; fully bespoke work needs its own confirmed specification and scope. Ask which category the quoted line actually belongs to. A finish sample or attractive rendering does not establish that every size or modification is available.
Construction: identify the box material, door material, drawer construction and hardware in writing.
Layout: compare the same cabinet schedule, including widths, heights and depths.
Storage: list pullouts, trash storage, corner access and interior accessories separately.
Finish: record the actual color, sheen, door profile and any finish limitations.
Completeness: include fillers, finished ends, panels, toe kicks, trim and hardware.
Keep the kitchen around the cabinets in the same plan
Confirm the appliance model numbers and clearances before approving the cabinet schedule. An existing refrigerator recess, a dishwasher next to a corner or a larger range can change the plan. Mark doors, windows, plumbing locations and the path through the room on your project sketch. Planning dimensions help a first conversation; final measurements and installation requirements must be confirmed by the responsible professional before ordering.
For an Austin project, distinguish replacing finishes from altering the building or utilities. The City lists cabinets among certain permit-exempt finish work, but that does not settle associated wall, electrical, plumbing or other trade work. Its Express kitchen-remodel route has limits on wall and plumbing-fixture changes. Confirm the project address, authority and exact scope before relying on a permit route.
Use samples to answer a decision
Bring a countertop sample, flooring reference and photographs of the existing room when available. Look at the cabinet finish beside those materials and under the light you expect in the kitchen. Choose a short list with a reason for each option: maintenance, storage, construction, finish or budget. HIBC checks an appropriate local sample or designer introduction only after the project is qualified; the scope and appointment need confirmation.
Compare a complete cabinet quote
Request the same schedule and revision from each option. Separate the product price from measurement, design services, delivery or freight, installation, demolition, disposal and tax. Ask who handles receiving, shortages, damage reporting, warranty questions and changes after approval. Compare lead time and quote validity alongside the price.
For eligible products in the applicable member tier and approved ordering route, pricing is the actual supplier price available to HIBC, without HIBC product markup. Membership charges, tax, freight, installation and other services remain separate where applicable. Guest cabinet pricing is a separate option with its own written pricing and terms. Neither a product subtotal nor a membership price is a complete installed kitchen budget.
