Austin Kitchen Remodel Cost & Quote Comparison | HIBC
Product specifications and availability need project-specific confirmation. View the full-resolution inspiration image.
Compare the same kitchen, not just the headline total
A lower number is only useful when you understand what it buys. One kitchen quote may include installation and related work; another may cover products alone. Start by giving every bidder the same room information, product specifications and work list. Then mark anything that is excluded or based on an unresolved allowance.
HIBC helps with product buying and can coordinate design introductions after project scope, ZIP code, account eligibility and local availability are confirmed. HIBC is not a remodeling contractor. Product pricing is one part of the project budget, and it should be compared alongside the separate work needed to complete your kitchen.
Use a complete-project comparison sheet
Create a column for each written quote and use the same rows throughout. If a line is missing, ask whether it is included, excluded or still awaiting a price.
Budget line | What to clarify |
|---|---|
Products | Exact specifications, quantities and included accessories |
Delivery | Freight, handling, receiving and any access arrangements |
Removal and preparation | Demolition, disposal and preparation assumptions |
Installation | The products and tasks covered by the labor quote |
Related trade work | Electrical, plumbing or mechanical work in the actual scope |
Permits and services | Required permits, inspections, measurement and design charges |
Other charges | Tax, membership where relevant, and separately identified fees |
Changes | Allowances, substitution approval and change-order terms |
Next to each row, note the responsible party and the open question. That creates a checklist for the next conversation without suggesting that every project needs every item.
Make product specifications comparable
For cabinets, compare the same layout and cabinet list, finish, construction specification, hardware and accessories. Ask whether fillers, finished panels and trim appear in both quotes. For flooring, identify the rooms, product, ordered quantity and assumptions about preparation, transitions and trim. For countertops, compare the specified material, dimensions, edge, backsplash and cutouts.
Then separate product cost from delivery, removal, installation and related connections. Ask who confirms final measurements before the order or fabrication. A comparable quote describes the selected scope clearly enough that a missing item can be spotted before money is committed.
Understand the HIBC buying terms
For eligible products in the applicable member tier and approved ordering route, pricing is the actual supplier price available to HIBC, without HIBC product markup. That statement applies to the eligible product price; it does not make the entire remodel free of other charges. Membership, tax, freight, installation and services need to be considered separately. Guest cabinet pricing is separate from member pricing.
Ask which buying terms apply to your account and the specific products you are considering. Request the product specification and the separately identified charges before comparing an HIBC-supported buying option with another quote. Compare complete written scope and current terms to decide which option offers value for your project.
Put assumptions and responsibilities in writing
The City's contractor-selection guidance emphasizes comparing the same work and using a written agreement. Ask each company to state its scope, schedule, payment milestones and exclusions.
If plumbing work is part of the project, the Texas plumbing board's consumer guidance recommends written estimates and warranties. Ask whether the price is for a defined complete job or another charging arrangement, and record what happens when the scope changes.
Decide how substitutions will be approved, how an allowance becomes a final amount and who authorizes extra work. Keep those answers beside the quote instead of relying on a conversation you may remember differently later.
Check local scope before fixing the budget
Confirm your address's jurisdiction using the City's official property resources. For City projects, use its permit guide and confirm requirements with staff for the complete scope. For properties outside the City's authority, consult the applicable local office. Do not assume a product replacement answers every related-work question.
Ask HIBC to help clarify the buying portion
Send your ZIP code, product priorities, preliminary specifications, timing and membership or guest status. HIBC can confirm the available product-buying route and whether a qualified local design or sample introduction is appropriate. An initial review does not promise free full design or a confirmed appointment.
