Plan for the room—and the route into it

A cabinet layout is only part of an apartment project. Before selecting oversized pieces, ask your building manager about delivery appointments, service-elevator access, protection requirements and permitted work hours. These are questions to confirm for your building, not assumptions about every New York property.

Bring photos of each wall, the appliance labels and a rough sketch. Label every measurement as approximate until your installer verifies it. If the refrigerator door, dishwasher or a drawer would open into the same passage, flag that conflict before comparing finishes.

  • Photograph doorways, turns and the route from delivery access to the kitchen.
  • Separate storage priorities: everyday dishes, pantry items, recycling and small appliances.
  • List building approvals and delivery arrangements as items to confirm, with a responsible contact.

Keep the layout—or change the scope?

Ask for two clearly described options: replacing products within the existing layout and changing walls, utilities or appliance positions. New York City's Department of Buildings distinguishes minor work from renovations needing plans or permits. Review the current city guidance with the appropriate architect, engineer or contractor before authorizing work.

The New York–Newark–Jersey City market crosses municipal and state boundaries. NYC guidance is not a permit determination for Newark, Jersey City or another community. Give us your project city and state, and confirm the responsible building department for your address.

New York kitchen cabinets: compare the complete purchase

Before you commit to a cabinet quote in New York, Newark or Jersey City, put the room, the products and the delivery route into one clear plan. Compare the same cabinet construction, door style, finish, hardware and storage accessories—not just two headline prices.

  • Document appliance sizes, door swings, finished panels and required clearances.
  • Confirm building-specific delivery appointments, access charges and receiving arrangements.
  • Separate installation, taxes, storage and debris handling so services are not counted twice or left out.

Use our showroom preparation checklist to organize your project brief. The complete cabinet quote comparison guide helps you compare the full investment.

HIBC showroom coordination

Exploring Materials in Person?

HIBC can help you explore showroom options for your project in New York metro. Share your city, ZIP code and product interests so we can confirm the appropriate location, available services and visit arrangements. Our service begins online; a showroom visit requires separate confirmation. An inquiry does not issue a visitor pass or book an appointment.

A common question

Can I start if my building has not approved the renovation?

Yes. An initial online review can help organize your priorities and questions while approvals are being clarified. It is not permission to begin construction, a permit application or a final installation plan. Tell us which layout and product decisions are still subject to your building or project professionals.

Understand the Membership Decision

Requesting an initial kitchen review is free and does not enroll you. Gold membership is a separate purchase: $4,995 initial enrollment includes Year 1, with $495 annual continuation beginning in Year 2 under the checkout terms. Request a free kitchen design before joining; HIBC first confirms the independent local showroom account, designer availability and no-charge scope. Membership is a separate decision. Include membership when comparing complete project costs.

Start With the Kitchen You Have in Mind.

Tell us your project city and state, the three changes you want most and whether you plan to keep the existing layout. You can start with photos and a rough sketch.
