Count usable places, not stool symbols
An island drawing for a Wichita kitchen may show several identical stool symbols. Replace those symbols with the seating you are considering before treating the count as settled. Record the stool's overall shape, arms if present and intended seat position. Include everyone who regularly uses that part of the kitchen in the review.
Cambria's island-layout guidance calls for checking the space around each seat, countertop height and room for stools beneath the overhang. Use those questions to organize a project-specific comparison; the page is not an engineered support design for your island.
Put support and seating on the same drawing
Ask the fabricator and responsible project professionals to specify the support arrangement for the actual countertop, cabinet assembly and site. Then have the designer show any supports or vertical elements that affect the seated area on the same plan and elevation as the stools.
Review where knees, feet and stool frames would sit relative to the confirmed arrangement. Ask whether the proposed stools can be put away as intended and how a person gets in and out of each place. Keep the walking route behind occupied seats visible instead of assessing the island only when every stool is tucked away.
If a conflict appears, request a revised supported design or a different seating arrangement from the providers. Do not move, omit or modify a support to match a furniture drawing. This worksheet gives no structural dimensions, fastening method or unsupported-overhang allowance.
Compare a supported alternative before accepting the count
Ask for two credible options when the preferred seating does not work with the proposed design. The alternative might use a different stool, fewer places or a provider-designed change to the island. Have the team identify the complete product and work differences so the choice is clear.
Record the result for each seat separately: usable as proposed, revised or unresolved. A neat line of stools in a rendering does not answer whether the end position works beside a return panel or whether an armrest fits beneath the finished top. Use a suitable showroom comparison or safe floor-plan representation for personal comfort; keep engineering with the responsible professionals.
Carry the accepted arrangement into the Wichita kitchen plan. If the island changes the room or its services, ask the project team to confirm requirements for the actual address and complete scope. This seating review does not establish a permit exemption or accessibility compliance.
Before fabrication, retain the current drawing revision, identified countertop selection and provider confirmations. Ask the team to revisit affected seats if a support, cabinet or countertop detail changes.
Your decision worksheet
| Decision | Evidence to record |
|---|---|
| Stool identity | Record the actual candidate and its overall shape, including arms or other projections. |
| Finished height | Ask the designer to identify the finished countertop and proposed seating relationship. |
| Support arrangement | Attach the responsible professional’s design showing elements affecting each seat. |
| Seated position | Review knees, feet, stool storage and entry at each intended place. |
| Occupied route | Show the room with seats in use and record the professional layout review. |
| Accepted alternative | Name the chosen arrangement, current revision and complete scope changes. |
A worked buying example
Hypothetical example: a plan shows three stools, but the selected stool has arms and the end position sits beside a confirmed support element. The homeowner asks the team to compare a different stool with a revised seating count. The providers retain a supported countertop design, and the homeowner chooses the arrangement whose individual seats work as reviewed.
Questions to settle before ordering
Can I remove a support that interrupts the seating?
Ask the fabricator and responsible project professionals for a supported redesign. Do not treat a preferred stool position as permission to change structural support.
Does this worksheet specify a minimum seat width or overhang?
No. Have the appropriate professionals establish the actual design requirements, then review the proposed seating and everyday use within that design.
