Name the side and the added part separately
An exposed island end in a Sacramento kitchen can be described too briefly on a cabinet quote. Ask whether the proposal identifies the cabinet’s own finished side, a separate applied panel or another specific treatment. Record each supplied part rather than treating the phrase finished end as a complete specification.
The Sacramento kitchen planning guide helps establish the room scope. Once that scope is stable, use this worksheet for the physical cabinet assembly. It answers what is being supplied and where its final face will sit, rather than merely checking that a panel appears somewhere on the order.
Obtain the product-specific dimensions
Ask the provider to identify the cabinet side construction, the separate part if any, and the documented dimensions of the complete installed assembly. Record the final outside dimension used in the drawing. Do not add an assumed panel thickness to a cabinet width: the selected product and installation arrangement must establish that result.
KraftMaid’s product FAQ distinguishes cabinet components and product lines, and its specification guides describe the selected offerings. Those sources support identifying the actual product; they do not establish a universal end-panel thickness, attachment method or structural equivalence between alternatives.
Review the face the rest of the kitchen meets
Ask the designer to show how the final end relates to adjacent doors, trim, countertop edges and any nearby opening. Have the responsible providers coordinate their accepted dimensions. An attractive panel sample alone cannot show where the installed face lands or how the rest of the assembly will meet it.
Compare the finish identity and visible treatment as well as the dimensioned result. Ask who supplies and installs each part and which unresolved detail prevents order release. Retain the provider’s answer with the relevant drawing revision so the cabinet order and later measurement use the same assembly.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Cabinet side | Identify the side construction and its included finish. |
| Applied part | Record any separate panel, model and stated dimensions. |
| Finish identity | Name the product line, finish and approved sample. |
| Final size | Obtain the complete assembly’s accepted outside dimension. |
| Alignment | Show adjoining fronts, trim, countertop and nearby openings. |
| Provider record | Keep the confirmed assembly and drawing version together. |
Worked example: two different island ends
Suppose one offer lists a finished cabinet side while another includes a separate decorative panel. Ask each provider to show its complete end assembly and final dimension. Compare appearance, adjoining alignments and included installation. If you prefer the applied treatment, have the drawing updated to that actual product before relying on a dimension copied from the other offer.
Questions to settle before ordering
Are all decorative panels the same thickness?
No universal thickness is established here. Obtain the specification for the exact panel and assembly being offered.
Does a panel replace the cabinet’s side construction?
Do not assume that. Ask the provider to identify the role and installation of each actual component.
Can I approve the appearance before the dimensions?
You can express a finish preference, but keep the order conditional on the accepted assembly and its required fit checks.
