Kent cabinet buying guide
Turn a cabinet delivery into an installation-ready record
A truck arriving at your Kent home answers one question: a shipment reached the property. It does not establish that every ordered component is present, inspected and ready for installation. Use a receiving record to connect what arrived with the accepted order and give the installer a clear list of unresolved items.
If responsibility for receiving is still unclear, start with the Kent complete-cost quote comparison. This checklist starts once you know who will receive, inspect and report concerns.
Have the order and reporting instructions ready
Gather the accepted itemized order, latest approved drawing, delivery notice and any list of separately shipped or backordered pieces. Confirm who can answer an order-line question and how the seller wants concerns reported. Check the actual reporting periods and required records before delivery; do not assume another cabinet brand's policy applies.
For online purchases, the FTC advises reviewing shipping, delivery, return and refund policies before buying. Keep the applicable version with your order. A record of a concern does not by itself establish a refund, replacement or carrier responsibility.
Keep receiving facts separate
| Record | What to write down |
|---|---|
| Order | Order number, accepted revision, item code and expected finish or size. |
| Count | Cartons received, labels checked and individual components confirmed; identify anything still unlocated. |
| Condition | What is visible on packaging and product, with dated overview and detail photos tied to the item. |
| Report | Recipient, reporting method, date, attachments and case or reply reference. |
| Plan | Provider's response, agreed next action and whether any replacement or timing remains unconfirmed. |
| Handoff | Affected cabinet location, work dependency, responsible person and next check-in. |
Count cartons and check their contents as separate steps. One carton can contain several pieces; an item not yet found should remain unconfirmed until you reconcile labels, packing information and separate shipments. Describe the observation without guessing when damage occurred.
Inspect safely and protect what you checked
KraftMaid's delivery guidance recommends inspecting its entire order soon after arrival and before demolition, protecting inspected cabinets in their cartons, and contacting the designer who placed the order about problems. Those are that manufacturer's instructions; follow the guidance supplied for your purchase.
Arrange suitable help for heavy cabinets and use the manufacturer's unpacking and storage instructions. Keep labels and the information needed to identify a questioned piece. Before an affected item is altered, installed or discarded, obtain the provider's instructions and discuss the work sequence with your installer.
Worked example: all cartons arrive, but the order is unresolved
Suppose the carton count matches the delivery notice. During inspection, you cannot locate an island end panel, and a base-cabinet door has a chipped corner. Create two entries: an unlocated component and an observed condition. Photograph the door, its carton label and the relevant packaging; identify the end panel by its order line and intended location.
Ask the seller to reconcile the panel against packing and separate-shipment records and confirm the next step for the door. Ask the installer which tasks depend on those pieces. Record a promised update separately from an approved remedy or confirmed delivery date, then revise the work plan when the answer arrives.
Give the installer a usable handoff
Send the current order, checked-item list and open exceptions to the person coordinating installation. Mark each issue as reported, awaiting an answer or resolved, with the supporting reply. Use the Kent installation-proposal checklist to confirm who owns follow-up. Delivery inspection does not replace professional verification of fit or installation requirements.
Plan your next buying decision
The cabinet receiving record identifies the products that arrived. Before ordering the adjoining wall finish, use the Kent backsplash sample approval worksheet to record the tile, grout and exposed edge beside those cabinet and countertop selections.
