Name the interval between arrival and installation
Your Grand Rapids cabinet order may be ready while removal or room preparation is still underway. Before redirecting delivery, ask whether the seller can retain the order or whether another agreed storage arrangement is available. Compare the actual terms of those options. Do not assume a supplier, installer or warehouse provides storage automatically.
Use the dates and unfinished work in the Grand Rapids removal-and-trade scope to explain the gap. Record the earliest date the kitchen could accept products and who confirms that readiness. A hoped-for completion date should remain distinguishable from an accepted release instruction.
Keep the order identity through both handoffs
Create a carton and item record for the person receiving the shipment. Record what arrived, visible exceptions and where the supporting photos are stored privately. Agree who follows the seller's inspection and reporting instructions, including applicable deadlines. Storage does not by itself establish that reporting can wait.
KraftMaid recommends inspecting its cabinet order shortly after arrival. Its separate delivery planning guidance also addresses a clean, dry, secure storage area. Ask the actual supplier to approve the conditions appropriate to your products and proposed offsite location; do not transfer a general recommendation into an assumed storage specification.
Define release and the second receipt
Before choosing an option, ask about storage charges, access, handling, transport to the home and how responsibility is documented. Have each provider state its own terms concerning damage, missing items and any insurance questions. A storage address alone does not answer those questions.
Name who can release the order and who accepts it at the kitchen. Have the next receiver reconcile the transferred items with the original record and outstanding exceptions. Record a changed delivery or release date in writing, with its cost and effect on installation, instead of treating the original appointment as still confirmed.
| Decision item | Write down before choosing |
|---|---|
| First receipt | Order and carton list, date, receiver and exceptions. |
| Storage | Agreed location, custodian, conditions and written terms. |
| Inspection | Who checks products and follows seller reporting instructions. |
| Release | Authorized instruction, agreed date and transport scope. |
| Second receipt | Items transferred, next receiver and unresolved exceptions. |
Worked example: the room will not be ready
Suppose cabinets can arrive next week, but the accepted removal plan leaves the kitchen unavailable. The seller offers one written holding option; the installer proposes a separate storage location. Request the complete terms for each, including who checks the shipment and who arranges the final move.
If you choose the separate location, give its receiver the same order record that will accompany the products to the kitchen. When one carton has an unresolved condition report, carry that exception forward. A second signature showing the carton arrived at the home should not silently turn the unresolved issue into a completed item.
Questions to settle before ordering
Does holding the boxes delay an inspection deadline?
Do not assume that it does. Obtain the actual seller and carrier instructions before agreeing to storage, and assign the required checks and reports.
Is offsite storage included in a delivery price?
Only the written offer can establish that. Compare storage, handling and onward transport as separate scope items where they are not included.
