Cabinet Delivery and Installation: A Coordination Checklist for Homeowners
A carefully selected cabinet package still needs a clear plan for getting from the supplier to your finished kitchen. Before you schedule delivery or installation, connect the people responsible for ordering, receiving and fitting the products. Small questions are easier to resolve while the order is still being planned.
Confirm what is being delivered
Keep the final approved cabinet list and layout together. Confirm whether accessories, hardware, panels and trim arrive with the cabinets or separately. Ask whether products arrive assembled or require assembly and which party is responsible for any assembly work.
Record the order contact, delivery contact and installer contact. Share the relevant product documents with the installer before delivery. If something in the order changes, distribute the updated version so no one is working from an earlier plan.
Clarify delivery service and access
Ask where the delivery service leaves the products and what unloading assistance is included. Explain stairs, narrow access, parking limitations or other conditions that may affect the visit. Confirm any special arrangements and charges with the provider rather than assuming the delivery team can accommodate them.
Agree on who will be present, who may sign for the shipment and whom that person should contact with a question. Make sure the receiving person has the current order list and the supplier’s instructions for checking the delivery.
Plan inspection and discrepancy reporting
Request the supplier’s current written procedure for reporting visible damage, missing items or an incorrect product. Ask about the information needed, reporting deadlines and how packaging should be handled. Follow those instructions rather than relying on a generic checklist to define your obligations.
Keep a dated record of what arrives and any concerns, with photographs where appropriate. Do not assume the delivery driver, showroom and installer automatically share the same information. Confirm who will open and manage a replacement or correction request.
Arrange appropriate storage
Ask for the manufacturer’s storage and handling instructions for your cabinet products. Confirm that the planned storage area is suitable and available when the shipment arrives. Discuss who moves the products from that area to the kitchen and whether that work is included.
Avoid scheduling on the assumption that every component will arrive together or that a delivery estimate is a guaranteed date. Ask the supplier and installer how they coordinate if a needed item is delayed, and understand the consequences of changing an installation appointment.
Hold a pre-installation review
Have the responsible professionals review site readiness, final measurements, the approved layout and the products on hand. Identify any work that must happen before cabinet installation. Clarify who makes decisions if the existing conditions differ from the plan.
Discuss how installation questions, adjustments and incomplete items will be documented. Confirm who reviews the finished work and who contacts the supplier when a product issue needs attention. A written handoff keeps the process clearer for everyone.
