A cabinet quote is only one part of a kitchen alteration. HIBC offers nationwide online buying coordination for Raleigh-area homeowners exploring confidential wholesale product quotes. Start with a free initial review of your current layout, intended changes and existing estimates, with no automatic enrollment in Gold membership.

Separate product choices from added living space

Describe whether the kitchen stays within its existing room or whether the project adds space, encloses another area or changes how an adjoining room is used. Keep those alternatives distinct so the product comparison does not mix different construction assumptions.

Photograph the kitchen, record appliance models and draw a preliminary layout. Identify changes to walls, power, water and exhaust for professional review. Ask your installer which dimensions and selections must be verified before cabinet and countertop orders are approved.

  • Mark retained and relocated fixtures.
  • List unfinished product decisions.
  • Keep a dated version of each layout option.

A permit without plans is still a permit

Raleigh’s residential guide lists room renovations, including kitchens, within its Alterations and Repairs information and directs applicants to include related plumbing, mechanical and electrical scope in the residential alteration application. Its no-plan categories still require permits; other project types require supporting plans.

Ask the city and your professional which route fits the whole proposal, especially if you are adding space or changing its use. This guidance is for Raleigh’s process, not a permit determination for Cary or every community in the metro.

Raleigh: How to Get a Residential Permit

Compare the products and the work they require

Request cabinet construction, finish, dimensions, hardware and accessories in writing. Include fillers, panels and trim, and specify countertop material, edge and cutouts. Have the contractor review the chosen appliance requirements before treating connection work as settled.

Add delivery, installation, trade labor, applicable taxes, permit-related costs and membership to the product totals. Ask which amounts are fixed, which are allowances and how changes are approved. Confidential wholesale pricing should be compared against the same complete specifications.

  • Assign final measurement responsibility.
  • Confirm receiving and damage-reporting procedures.
  • Keep approved substitutions with the current product schedule.

If a Raleigh project does not need submitted plans, is it permit-free?

No. Raleigh explicitly distinguishes projects needing permits without plans from projects requiring plans. Confirm the category for your complete scope with the city and qualified project professionals; an online kitchen review is not a permit determination.

Review and membership costs

Requesting an initial kitchen review is free and does not enroll you. Gold membership is a separate purchase: $4,995 initial enrollment includes Year 1, with $495 annual continuation beginning in Year 2 under the checkout terms. Detailed complimentary kitchen design is a Gold membership benefit. Include membership when comparing complete project costs.
