A kitchen project moves more smoothly when the product order and construction scope stay in step. HIBC works online with Columbus-area homeowners to organize specifications and confidential wholesale quote options. A free initial review starts with your goals, room photos and the decisions that are still open.

Create a decision list before a delivery calendar

List which cabinet, countertop and appliance choices are final and which depend on measurements or professional review. Identify any wall or utility relocation separately. Ask the installer what must be resolved before dimensions can be approved and an order released.

Keep one current plan version with your estimates. If the design changes, circulate the revision and ask which prices need updating. This is especially useful when a cabinet seller, fabricator and contractor are quoting different portions of the room.

  • Label preliminary measurements clearly.
  • Record retained appliance model numbers.
  • Name the person responsible for final product approval.

Distinguish application status from permission to build

Columbus explains that required reviews must be approved before the permit is issued and work can begin. Once a record exists, application status can be tracked through the Citizen Access Portal. Its guidance also distinguishes exemption information for residential one-, two- and three-family dwellings from other structures.

Have your project professional confirm the building type, full scope and applicable permits rather than assuming a submitted application is an approval. This City of Columbus resource does not govern every municipality in the metro; verify the actual project address.

Compare complete costs at the same decision stage

Match cabinet dimensions, construction, finish, hardware and accessories in every quote. Include fillers, panels, trim and installation materials. Request a defined counter specification and identify the items still covered by allowances.

Set delivery, installation, trade work, taxes, permit costs and membership beside the product total. Ask whether a quoted delivery date depends on final approvals or stock confirmation. Keep a written process for substitutions, damaged arrivals and later changes.

  • Separate estimates from confirmed amounts.
  • Identify receiving and inspection responsibilities.
  • Save the final schedule and applicable project records together.

Does a permit application mean I can start construction?

No. Columbus states that required reviews precede permit issuance and the start of work. Your contractor and building authority should confirm the project’s actual status. HIBC’s buying review and a product quote are separate from that approval.

Gold membership is a separate purchase: $4,995 initial enrollment includes Year 1, with $495 annual continuation beginning in Year 2 under the checkout terms.
